Our 42-year-old Blended Malt Scotch, A Trail of Smoke, takes us on a journey across the islands of Scotland – uniting the individual characters of each to create a beautifully balanced, unified luxury whisky.
Scattered across the West and North Coast of Scotland, emerging from the turbulent North Atlantic, the picturesque islands of Scotland have long been home to a number of rugged and resilient Scotch distilleries.
Isolated from the mainland, for centuries these distilleries have used the abundant peat native to each of them as fuel to dry their harvests of malt barley.
Locked within this fuel source are millennia of history – the ecosystems the islands have supported, the life they have captured – unique to the islands from which they originate.
Thus, through the kilning process, these peats impart their island’s landscape and history on the spirits produced there.
A Trail of Smoke - A Luxury Whisky from the Scottish Isles
Our 42-year-old Blended Malt Scotch, A Trail of Smoke, takes us on a journey across these islands – uniting the individual characters of each to create a beautifully balanced, unified blend.
It’s impossible to taste the spirit without immediately being reminded of the landscapes from which it hails – the harsh sea breeze, pine forests, and herbaceous meadows of thistle and heather – each note offering its own window into these remarkable environments.
Delicately peated and well balanced, the whisky holds an initial sweetness on the nose before a satisfyingly dry, herbal aspect emerges alongside the signature woodsmoke.
On the palate, the peat character forms a foundation upon which succulent notes of charred and tropical fruit swell.
Refined and well structured, this whisky’s exquisite character resides in the unique relationships the tastes provide. Sweetness leads into dryness. Fresh fruit into a warm peat flavour.
Through this fine, luxury whisky, we are therefore able to travel across these famous islands – uncovering new layers of taste and character with every sip.
Rather than overpowering the imbiber with the dense smokiness found in some other malt whiskies, the smoke flavour is balanced and refined – allowing one to truly take in its nuances and the notes it supports.
“It tastes like a meandering tour of the Scottish Islands... Perhaps the standout of the Autumn releases,” Simon Thomson, City AM.
The extensive maturation the spirit has undertaken has only helped to further reinforce this aged character – leaving no room for doubt that the whisky is firmly anchored to the islands from which its component spirits derive.
Packaged in a hand-labelled, individually numbered decanter with accompanying gift box, A Trail of Smoke is the ideal choice for somebody looking to further explore island Scotch or take their first steps on this exciting trail of smoke.
