A Breath of Fresh Air
Blended at Birth
Blended at Birth
Distilled in 1965 and married as new make spirit this unusual Vintage Blended Scotch Whisky has spent the following 56 years maturing in American oak where it has taken on rich, decadent notes of marzipan and fruitcake.
"The palate is a balance of primary tastes – sweet to start, lightly salty middle, with a tart, dry finish. Most unusual."
Charlie McLean
"Deep gold in colour there is a wonderful mix of dried fruit, almonds, and orange zest on the nose, while on the palate there is a lovely balance of fruit cake, baked banana, and sweet toffee."
"Long ageing has wrought an alchemical transformation in this 1965 blend – exotic notes of apricot, mango and passionfruit, plus pungent lily and jasmine scents. There’s light vanilla fudge, then darker caramel, a silky texture and a scented finish redolent of Parma Violets and an upmarket perfumier."

The Finer Details
Some whiskies may appear born to be paired together but very few are blended at birth. Yet such is the case with this unusual parcel of grain and malt, born 57 years ago and married –as new make spirit –before aging as a blend for half a lifetime in ex-bourbon American oak. Time has brought the malt and grain components together to create a Vintage Blended Scotch Whisky that has matured beautifully as a single spirit. This is not only one of the world’s first whiskies to be blended at birth, but also likely to be one of the last, for such practices are now prohibited by the powers that be within Scotch.
